On August 1st, 2023, the British Department of Commerce and Trade (DBT) announced that it would extend the use of CE mark in enterprises indefinitely. December 31st, 2024 was originally the deadline for UKCA to replace CE. Considering the resistance of industries and manufacturers, many enterprises are still trying to get rid of the impact of COVID-19 epidemic and high inflation. At this time, the implementation of the new regulations will increase a lot of costs. As part of the government's efforts to promote smarter regulation, this delay will reduce the cost and time required for enterprises to put on the market and benefit consumers.
The British government intends to extend the recognition of CE marks of most goods in the British market indefinitely after December 2024. This update applies to 18 regulations under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce and Trade (DBT). The product categories involved include:
toy
fireworks and crackers
Leisure boats and personal boats
Simple pressure vessel
electromagnetic compatibility
Non-automatic weighing instrument
measuring instrument
Metering container bottle
lift
Equipment with potentially explosive atmosphere (ATEX)
radio equipment
Pressure equipment
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Gas appliance
machinery
Outdoor use equipment
sprayer
Low voltage electrical equipment
This extension will provide enterprises with the flexible choice of using UKCA or CE to sell products in the UK, which means that products with CE mark will still be recognized in the UK market within the specified time limit, and there is no need for additional certification according to British regulations.
